A one of a kind trendsetting annual dance tribute to the saint composer Thyagaraja, by five select dance academies, since 1998

THYAGARAJA AARADHANA

POETRY IN DANCE

From 1998, Kala Pradarshini chose to break away from the beaten path and deviated from usual format by showcasing the Pancharathna kritis through dance. Though initially, it was not easily accepted by the audiences, who had been exposed to only the traditional form of showcase, with perseverance Kala Pradarshini’s Thyagaraja Aaradhana became an accepted format by the audiences and connoisseurs of the arts. Paying tribute through dance opened up the philosophy laced in the kritis to a wider audience. Over the years, other organizations and artists have replicated this idea in order to spread the richness of the Thyagaraja philosophy.

Every year five dance schools and their performers– ranging from the well-established performers and their students adorn the stage in adoration of Lord Rama. Each year this event has proven to be the most popular showcasing amongst the audiences. We would like to acknowledge our event collaborator, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan that has been supporting this endeavor since 1998.
