Utchi Thilagam is the story of a devotee named Subramaniyam, popularly known as Abhirami Bhattar, who lived in Thirukkadaiyur. Bhattar's expression of his ardent devotion through his unique verses for goddess Abhirami came to be known as Abhirami Andhadhi and Padhikam. The dramatic events leading to the creation of Abhirami Andhadhi and Padhikam form the climax of this ballet. This ballet was specially filmed in the well-known temples of Thirukadaiyur, Seergazhi and other holy places in South India and is often televised by Doordarshan network to this day. The demand for this production was so high that after several repeated requests, a special recorded DVD was released.
